Sample Platforms
  

    
Sample probe with Rotation about Horizontal Axis                                              
We offer a sample probe fitted with a platform for a single sample which is capable of ±135 degrees rotation about the horizontal axis.

The probe is fitted with 3 twisted pair electrical leads for experimental use, these are wired from the sample platform to a multi-pin Fisher connector at the top of the probe.  The sample platform is also fitted with a 30 point calibrated Cernox thermometer (1.4K to 325K) and a small heater.  Wiring for the heater and thermometer is taken to a separate 6 pin Fisher connector at the top of the probe.

Rotation of the platform is done manually from the top of the probe.  A multi-turn knob with a calibration is fitted.  A positional accuracy of better than 1 degree may be obtained.

 

Sample probe with Rotation about  Vertical Axis
We offer a sample probe which allows the sample to be manually rotated through 360 degrees around the vertical axis. The sample probe comprises a top flange housing all electronics feedthroughs (for samples and temperature sensor) fixed to a stainless steel tube which supports a copper sample mount at the field centre.

Rotation of the platform is done manually from the top of the probe. A multi-turn knob with a calibration is fitted. A positional accuracy of better than 1 degree may be obtained. The probe provides a sample platform at the centre of the magnetic field where up to two samples may be placed. The probe is fitted with 4 twisted pair electrical leads for experimental use, these are wired from the sample platform to a multi-pin Fisher connector at the top of the probe. The sample platform is also fitted with a 30 point calibrated Cernox thermometer (1.4K to 325K)  and a small heater. Wiring for the heater and thermometer is taken to a separate 6 pin Fisher connector at the top of the probe.

 

Electronic transport probe
Provides a sample platform at the centre of the magnetic field where up to two samples may be placed. Wiring is provided for two 4-wire measurements in addition to the temperature sensor.



Specific heat probe
Allows for vacuum isolation of the samples for performing specific heat experiments. The vacuum space may be pressurised from an external gas bottle (not provided) for thermalisation of the sample before the experiment begins. The sample is mounted on a platform weakly thermally linked to the main support.



Motorised rotation probe
This permits the sample to be rotated +/-1800 about the vertical plane and the position determined to an accuracy of 0.050 (optionally 0.010).

 

AC susceptibility measurement facility
A probe with AC driver coil and astatic pick-up coil pair is provided to allow AC susceptibility to be measured over the range 5Hz to 10KHz. At 1KHz the probe permits susceptibility of 10-8 emu to be measured in a driver AC field of 200 gauss with a background field of 0 to 8T (5 x 10-8 in 14T). Sample size is limited to 4mm dsv. Additional electronics necessary for driving the coils are provided.

Cryogenic Ltd offers customised High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) current leads.

The current leads are designed to be connected to the flying leads from the superconducting magnet at the lower end and to suitable current feedthroughs at the upper end. The length of these current leads will be made to suit the customers existing cryostat.

Cryogenic has built many current leads ranging from 600 Amp to 13,000 Amp leads with 1.5W Heat load at 4.5K for The Large Hadron Collider at CERN.
