Founded in 1989 as an equity company between Corning and Mitsubishi, Cormetech is the leading producer of titania-based ceramic honeycomb catalyst for NOx emission control. Cormetech’s products are used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems for air pollution control and leverage a solid base of more than 30 years of SCR experience and ceramic extrusion technology.
Dow Corning Corporation
Recognizing the commercial possibilities for silicones, the management teams of Corning and The Dow Chemical Company formed the equity company, Dow Corning Corporation, in 1943 to tap this new chemistry’s potential. Today Dow Corning provides performance-enhancing solutions to serve the diverse needs of more than 25,000 customers worldwide, offering more than 7,000 products and services.
- Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation
Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation is the world’s leading producer of hyper-pure polycrystalline silicon for the semiconductor and solar industries. Originally a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dow Corning Corporation, Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation became a joint venture between Dow Corning and two of Japan's largest single-crystal wafer manufacturers, Shin-Etsu Handotai Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation in 1984.
Eurokera North America, Inc., Eurokera S.N.C, and Keraglass S.N.C.
Equity companies between Corning and The Compagnie de Saint-Gobain of Paris, France, Eurokera and Keraglass are manufacturers of flat glass-ceramic surfaces for kitchen ranges, cookers, hotplates and other heating appliances. They introduced glass-ceramic cook surfaces known for superior performance, appearance and durability.
Samsung Corning Precision Materials Co., Ltd.
Established as a joint equity company between Samsung and Corning in 1995, Samsung Corning Precision Materials Co., Ltd. (SCP), based in Seoul, Korea, is a leading supplier of active matrix liquid crystal display (LCD) glass substrates to display manufacturers in Korea. The company is one of only a few in the world to manufacture LCD glass, widely used in TVs, notebook computers, desktop monitors, digital cameras, mobile phones, PDAs and GPS auto navigation systems.
SCP acquired Samsung Corning, a company making cathode ray tube (CRT) glass and other display parts and materials, in order to expand its area of expertise in late 2007. Samsung Corning Advanced Glass, LLC
Corning and Samsung also have an equity venture for the manufacture of specialty glass substrates for the rapidly expanding organic light emitting diode (OLED) device market. The business intends to combine Corning’s Lotus™ Glass substrate technology and Samsung Display’s OLED display expertise, to provide outstanding product solutions for current and future OLED technologies, from handheld and IT devices to large TVs and beyond.
