Our aim is for every facility to develop and maintain a safety and health management system. Corning has developed an occupational safety and health system model in line with the Shewhart cycle (plan, do, check, act).
- Using the corporate Safety and Health Policy as a framework, each facility management team articulates their own policy and specific objectives.
- Fundamental safety and health management practices further establish the requirements of the system that are most applicable to individual facility needs. These practices include the development of a facility-specific management plan, the definition of roles, and the allocation of responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Each facility establishes, implements, and maintains programs that ensure the recognition and evaluation of hazards and the application of necessary and appropriate control measures.
- To ensure ongoing effectiveness of the safety and health system, periodic evaluations and continual improvement are incorporated into the system.
- Several Corning facilities have achieved and maintained third-party recogniton of their occupational safety and health management systems, as shown in the box.
